Thank you for organizing your fellow citizens to push for a constitutional amendment to establish that money is not speech and corporations are not people!

Below are some steps, tips, and materials for a successful organizing party. We’ll be holding a nationwide conference call for as a draw for your meeting, featuring remarks from a special guest speaker (TBA in the coming weeks) and some of your fellow citizen activists.

In response to requests for more flexibility and assurance that technology will be working effectively, we will be recording the speech in advance and making the recording available both on line and via a call in number.

Have a question that's not answered in this guide? Email us at info@movetoamend.org, and we’ll get back to you ASAP!

1. Before Your Event

2. During Your Event

  • Make sure everyone attending puts their name and email down readably on a Sign In Sheet (PDF), so you can follow up on meeting commitments and future events by phone and email.
  • Our House Party Agenda for Hosts (PDF) offers a basic guide to how things will work timing-wise, and suggestions for how to facilitate discussion and plan for Occupy the Courts. Feel free to add your own agenda items (including local speakers)!
  • Take a look at House Party FAQ from our allies at Move to Amend for some additional tips.
  • Look our Occupy the Courts page and use some of the ideas there to  kick-start your planning discussion. We encourage you to brainstorm freely, and not be constrained at all by our ideas. This is, after all, a grassroots movement of citizens!

3. After Your Event

  • Take a look at our Anniversary Organizing Plan (updated version coming soon!) for a schedule of what else we’ve got planned leading up to the Nationwide Day of Action to Occupy the Courts. This includes a schedule of upcoming conference calls we’ll be holding with organizing party hosts to get your feedback and continue planning.
  • Download a printer-friendly flyer to promote Occupy the Courts. Start distributing in your community and among friends, neighbors, etc.

4. For First-Time Hosts

You do not need to have any experience in hosting this type of event, merely a passion to roll back corporate power. We’ll help you do the rest!
